At Northern Virginia Public Health, our mission is to protect, promote, and advance the health and well-being of all residents across the region. Serving a growing, vibrant population across Fairfax, Prince William, and Stafford counties—as well as the City of Fredericksburg—we bridge local public policy, community outreach, and evidence-based science to build a safer, healthier Northern Virginia.
Our Mission Statement: Northern Virginia Public Health empowers communities across Fairfax, Prince William, Stafford, and Fredericksburg to thrive. Through local data, community-driven prevention strategies, and robust substance misuse prevention, we protect population health and support workforce well-being at every level.
1. Local Data & Epidemiological Insights
Data drives every community decision we make. By continuously gathering and analyzing regional health metrics, youth risk behavior surveys, and public health trends, we monitor community health shifts in real time across the I-95 and I-66 corridors.
Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNAs): We track disease prevalence, maternal health indicators, and environmental risk factors across local jurisdictions—including growing suburban and rural-suburban transition areas in Stafford County.
Open Data Access: We empower researchers, local leaders, and community members with actionable dashboards to identify emerging health threats and evaluate community programs.
2. Population Health & Equity
Health begins in our homes, schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. We focus on population-level strategies that address the social determinants of health—ensuring every resident, from urban hubs to suburban communities, has equitable access to nutritious food, clean environments, and community health resources.
Chronic Disease Prevention: Promoting active living and heart-healthy, diabetes-conscious communities through education, outreach, and local partnerships.
Health Disparity Reduction: Allocating targeted resources to historically underserved communities across Northern Virginia to bridge health access gaps.
3. Substance Misuse & Behavioral Health Prevention
Addressing mental health challenges and substance misuse requires an empathetic, multi-pronged approach rooted in prevention, harm reduction, intervention, and long-term recovery support.
Opioid & Fentanyl Awareness: Distributing harm-reduction education (such as Naloxone/Narcan training), tracking overdose trends, and funding community coalitions across all Northern Virginia counties.
Youth & Young Adult Initiatives: Partnering with local public school systems—including Stafford, Prince William, and Fairfax County Public Schools—and youth coalitions to deliver evidence-based substance misuse prevention and mental health first aid programs.
4. Workforce Health & Workplace Safety
A resilient community depends on a healthy, active workforce. We collaborate with regional employers, corporate centers, and public agencies to help create workplace environments that support physical and mental well-being.
Occupational Health & Safety Education: Offering guidance on workplace infection control, hazard mitigation, and environmental/sanitation standards.
Corporate Wellness & Behavioral Support: Helping regional employers implement mental health support frameworks, wellness programs, and drug-free workplace policies.
Fairfax County Health Data & Analytics: Integration of county-wide health metrics and school-based youth behavioral risk surveys. Population Health: Targeted chronic disease prevention programs and expanding health resource access across diverse suburban communities.
Prince William County Behavioral Health: Community mental health awareness, resilience programs, and crisis resource navigation. Health Equity: Maternal and child health initiatives designed to reduce disparities in rapidly growing residential hubs.
Stafford County Substance Misuse Prevention: Community-driven primary prevention, youth education, and regional overdose prevention coalitions. Workforce & Community Health: Supporting the needs of a fast-growing, commuting population through workplace wellness initiatives and community partnerships.
City of Fredericksburg Urban Health & Harm Reduction: Targeted community outreach, environmental health assessments, and local health resource navigation for urban residents. Regional Collaboration: Connecting community health resource networks between Northern Virginia and the Greater Fredericksburg region.
