NVAPH strengthens public health in Northern Virginia by turning local data into action, building coalitions that prevent substance misuse, and helping communities understand and respond to the health challenges they face. Our work centers on evidence-informed strategies, strong partnerships, and measurable results.

Core Areas of Focus

1. Community Health Data & Evaluation

We help partners collect, interpret, and apply local health data—from community health needs assessments to youth risk behavior surveys—so that decisions about prevention and programming are grounded in evidence, not guesswork.

2. Substance Misuse & Behavioral Health Prevention

Through work like the Stafford County Prevention Coalition, we bring together schools, public agencies, and community members to reduce substance misuse and strengthen the protective factors that help young people and families thrive.

3. Coalition Building & Community Partnerships

Public health challenges cross organizational lines. We build and support coalitions that pool resources, share expertise, and coordinate strategy across local governments, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations.

4. Workforce Health & Prevention Education

We work with regional employers to promote workplace wellness, and we deliver education and outreach that equips residents, professionals, and community partners with practical, evidence-based prevention knowledge.
