Northern Virginia Public Health (NVAPH) is a nonprofit organization working to strengthen the health and well-being of communities throughout Northern Virginia. We bring together public health professionals, community organizations, local leaders, and other partners to identify community health needs, develop effective prevention strategies, use data to guide decisions, and evaluate programs and policies that improve health outcomes.
Our work focuses on helping communities turn public health knowledge and data into practical action. We support community-based prevention initiatives, strengthen partnerships and coalitions, provide evaluation and technical assistance, and help organizations understand and use community health data. By connecting evidence, community experience, and local action, NVAPH helps partners develop approaches that are responsive to the needs of the people and communities they serve.
Many of the most important public health challenges cannot be addressed by a single organization. NVAPH works collaboratively with local governments, health and human service organizations, schools, community coalitions, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners. Our approach emphasizes shared goals, meaningful community engagement, and practical strategies that can be sustained over time.
One example of this work is our support for the Stafford County Prevention Coalition, which brings community partners together to prevent substance misuse and promote healthy, resilient communities. NVAPH provides organizational and technical support to strengthen coalition capacity, use data to identify priorities, implement evidence-informed strategies, and evaluate progress.
Effective public health action begins with understanding what is happening in a community. NVAPH helps partners collect, interpret, and apply information about community health, risk and protective factors, and local needs. We also support organizations in evaluating their programs so they can understand what is working, identify opportunities for improvement, and demonstrate results to community members and funders.
Our evaluation and data work is designed to be practical and accessible. We help community organizations move beyond simply collecting information to using evidence to make better decisions and strengthen the impact of their work.
NVAPH is particularly focused on prevention—addressing health challenges before they become more serious and strengthening the conditions that help individuals, families, and communities thrive. We work with community partners to identify priorities, develop evidence-informed approaches, build organizational and coalition capacity, and measure progress.
Our work is grounded in the belief that healthier communities are built through collaboration. We value local knowledge and experience while bringing public health expertise, evaluation methods, and data-driven approaches to community problem-solving.
